New inventory, announcing new market at the cow palace in SF on Sunday 3/17

We will be showing at new market this Sunday, it is at The Cow Palace in SF, Sunday 3/17 marks the first date of this monthly event. If you missed us at Alameda come on out, we will be showing in booths F 30,31,32. For those of you who can't handle the crowds and parking wars at alameda show this promises to be a much more low key albeit quality show put on by a veteran promoter.
Here are two coffee tables made from antique factory carts. I recently found a whole warehouse of industrial salvage, purchased a number of these carts. The two finished pieces shown are made with bowling lane stock as tops.
Here is photo of dining table made from one of the mable bowling lane slabs. We will have one of these to show this Sunday at Cow Palace show.

Industrial wine cart.

Console table of colorful repurposed wood strips for top. Cast iron element is salvaged from a victorian era standing floor lamp I deconstructed. Note the angel.

Vintage cast iron pedastal is polished and laquered. Top is repurposed doug fir framing stock, planed.
A very unique piece made from a "reel jack". A vintage cast iron industrial element found buried in the mud in a salvage yard in the delta, used it for the base on this console table. A real challenge to mate these disparate elements, I really like how this turned out.

This is a vintage steel cartographers table. Polished and laquered.
The steel tabletop here was originally a factory cart. I removed the wheels, handle, etc and welded these 3x3 angle iron pieces on as legs. The legs are also repurposed, steel was purchased at Urban Ore. Tabletop is polished and clearcoated, very nice patination with all the scars from many years use in an industrial setting. Could be a desk or small dining table, set at 30" ht.
Purchased a large lot of traffic signs at an auction several years ago, and here is a new product using these signs cut up and randomly applied as panels delineated by the rungs of these vintage wooden painters ladders.

Coffee table made from vintage tile tabletop mounted on fluted architectural columns salvaged from SF victorian teardown. Base is cast iron, polished, laquered, VERY OLD:) Has foundry markings from Oakland. ca., not sure its original use but obviously was a stand for something.

Bed frame made from rough sawn doug fir framing stock, contrasted nicely by colorful repurposed strips in panels.Has modern knockdown inserts, this one is for Queen bed but could be recreated any size.
More signs. These are from East Oakland. Rough neigborhood. Vintage industrial flatfile found at Urban Ore, I put it up on wheels and made the top from these signs.
Double shutter doors with drawer down below on this piece. Shutters are from New England, very old, and they look it.

Cute little steel desk. Pretty rough shape when I found this at salvage yard, wenmt through it and now is completely functional. Nice patina, we sanded off the rougher spots of rust, etc., but left it pretty much as found, then laquered.

March 2013 new pieces, news

We will be at Alameda market again this month, booths N-2,15. Should be another beautiful "winter" day. Here are a few photos of some of the new pieces. There will be much much more.
First photo above is of a massive maple butcher block purchased last month at Alameda. Wish I had a before photo, this thing was pretty rough. 30 x 30 x x13" thick block, rolls amazingly well on wheels welded onto polished steel legs. After much sanding in shop and fresh coat of butcherblock oil this beauty is ready to go.
Most of the Victorian glass doors I run across have lead caming. These are copper. Showed these to my antique dealer fd. says probably art noveau period. They are stunning, I made the frames for them out of old door stock and built this cabinet around them. Beautiful copper flashed victorian hinges, cabinet latches.
Tabletop is old dougfir framing stock, planed. Base is polished cast iron, old, purchased at an estate sale.
( Buried in the weeds out back, where the good stuff is!)
Here are a few of my very popular colorful benches. In building my cabinets and other pieces, I save the cutoffs of the beadboard sides, etc. Here is one of the products made from them. Kinda like a butcher, we use everything but the squeal:)

Consoles.

Ice Cold, Hot Blast. Cool old advertising sign for Nehi pop, "blueracer" flavor. Interesting name, guess that one didn't catch on? Cast iron embellishment likely off of old stove. Very nice cast iron antique hinges, window lock. Handle is brass.
Small desk or?? Base is steel, colorful strips of wood as top.
Industrial style bench from the bowling lane wood, maple. Trim and base polished steel.

Custom cabinet. Tiles incorporated into top trim were removed from an antique stove.

Very cute turquoise bookcase. Distressed and clearcoated.
Love the 60's? Then this is for you. Found last weekend in the garage at an estate sale, has original brochure inside. Amazingly well preserved condition, circa 1960 bar-b-que has working electric motor for rotisserie with all the attachments. Original tools, down to the oven mitts included.

Industrial metal drawer unit, top is repurposed doug fir.

Since we cancelled our appearance at the Jan. Alameda show there is much much more to be shown at the Feb. Alameda show this Sunday. The selection shown here in this post is of but a few new pieces. Jan. post is below this one. Also, I will be posting in the next couple months photos of raw material purchases. Many people have asked for this, I will show before and after photos. Finally, this month marks the launch of my ETSY store, an online resource for artisans to sell their work direct to the retail public.

Here are a couple photos of recent custom pieces. First photo is of a large door designed to operate on large barn door sliders. Material is repurposed old growth doug fir, natural finish.
This table made from slab of maple bowling alley. I beam polished steel legs, cherry wood trim.
Desk made from vintage work cart from SF electrical motor rebuilding shop. Top is from an old door, tongue and groove 1x6.

Very nice vintage wicker console, new top using multi-colored strips of repurposed wood.
Simmons steel vanity, polished and laquered. Original brass knobs.

Wine cart, built from another work cart from the SF motor shop. Top is maple, original work surface with wonderful patina, refinished.
Another wine cabinet. The steel frame and gear mechanism were part of an antique rope measuring display cabinet from a hardware store.
Massive hutch. Crest was put together with antique architectural elements. Leaded glass doors were found at Urban Ore. Custom piece was collaboration of myself, client and a designer.
Industrial multi-drawer unit.

Next, this coffee table is made from old boy scout equipment trunk as base, antique cast iron wheels salvaged from old cart. Top is repurposed beadboard from West Oakland victorian.

This cabinet with sloped roof is a special order from an interior designer, meant as broom closet for under a set of stairs.
Vintage steel drawer unit purchased from urban ore, exterior surface distressed, interior of drawers painted. I added a base with wheels, and a nice thick oak top. Oak top was part of an old dining table I found dumped in my neighborhood a couple of weeks ago.

Rare Simmons steel vanity, polished, laquered.
Square coffee table with vintage iron base, top is mix of repurposed wood, whites and creams.
Tall "chimney" cabinet. Leaded glass window was purchased at Urban Ore. I made the frame out of some victorian door stiles. Very nice antique cast iron hardware. The cast iron plate with the graphics on it likely from old furnace.

This colorful coffee table was made from a vintage Pepsi store cooler. Had a zinc lined resevoir, made to hold bottles and ice. Date on cooler is 1917.
Small apt. sized bowling lane coffee table, cherry wood trim, steel legs salvaged from the marble cutting factory. Notice the saw cuts on the edges.

Beveled mirror, framestock was some very old 6" tongue and groove stock rescued from West Oakland teardown. Beautiful alligatoring/patina/colors.
"Willy's". What more to say. Iconic Willeys jeeps were pretty popular in the small Northern California town I grew up in, they could literally go just about anywhere. I found this old tailgate at the sacto flea, cut out the panel, polished and laquered and framed. Great wall art for the man cave. No extra charge for the bullet holes.

This is a chalkboard made from pc. of slate from a 100+ yr. old schoolhouse. Very hard to find salvage. Beautiful blues and greens behind the cream layers in the wood.

Cute stool, had to do a little bodywork but has nice rusty patina. Laquered.
Industrial workcart on wheels converted to small island. Has bowling lane stock for top.

Found this massive 30x30x10 maple butcher block at Urban Ore. Got rid of the really cheesy looking original wooden legs, gave it some industrial flair with these beefy I beam legs, polished, laquered. "Boos" is a topline brand of these blocks.

Wine cart on vintage castors, bowling lane top.
Here is a series of photos of a vintage cast iron machine base. Polished and laquered. Havent built anything using it yet, just was so cool(if you like that sort of thing:)) I decided to put it on the blog for others to admire. The fittings are bronze and that plate at the top is adjustable on 2 axes. Very fun to play with:) Have included an image of stand as found.

This is a very nice maple bowling lane top desk with a massive steel industrial base. The drawers are have self closing sliders, made from cherry and mahogany. Ordered by a client who has since dissapeared, maybe will sell, maybe will keep for me!

Bowling lane dining table, rustic rough sawn doug fir 3x4's as legs.

Vintage steel flat file, on wheels.

These shutters were salvaged in New England, trucked out here by a friend of mine. Beautiful colors and appearance, they have had a hard life with those hardcore New England winters! Repurposed as doors in this cabinet, lots of color here!

Nitestand, made it for my cousin, an eagle scout.
Here are several new coatracks. The closeup of the cherub is part of a cast iron pc. salvaged from antique standing lamp.

Another nightstand. Vintage english tile as part of the backsplash.
Antique handsaw blade incorporated into this one.

Vintage faucet handles.

Antique milkglass knobs.
Found these hummingbird cast iron brackets at SF flea, the hooks were part of an antique halltree from a south dakota barbershop.

Beautiful design on these victorian era hooks.
